Nutrition Plays a Key Role in Managing ADHD
For those suffering from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, known as ADHD, nutrition is essential. Nutrition greatly impacts the symptoms and overall well-being of those with the disorder. According to registered dieticians, incorporating specific foods into one’s diet can enhance focus, concentration, and cognitive function.
Omega-3 fatty acids, most especially those in salmon, walnuts, and chia seeds, also help enhance brain function and reduce inflammation. Whole grains, including brown rice, quinoa, and whole-wheat bread, contain complex carbohydrates that take a long time to digest and provide long-lasting energy. Lean proteins in chicken, turkey, and beans will enable neurotransmitters to function, while vitamin D-rich foods enhance cognitive functions.
Antioxidant-rich foods include berries, leafy greens, and other fruits and vegetables, which are anti-inflammatory and healthy overall. Meanwhile, one has to try to limit or avoid artificial additives and preservatives, sugary snacks, processed meats, and refined carbohydrates.
In turn, people with ADHD can improve concentration, mood management, energy, and sleep by following a healthy diet. Meal planning is best done with the guidance of a dietician or a health expert. Proper nutrition also enables the sufferer to cope with the symptoms much better and have a better quality of life.
